Free Events: Build a LEGO Bird

Saturday, Jan 25, 2020 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Chico Masonic Family Center (Map)

Swoop into our collection of thousands of LEGO to design and customize your own LEGO bird creation. Then attach your bird to our zip line to watch it "fly" across the room. After a brief compare and contrast between real bird flight and LEGO bird flight, Play-Well TEKnologies instructors Amber Drake and Matthew Greening will assist kids with designing, building, and "flying" LEGO birds. While participants do not get to keep their creations, they do get to play and build with our massive LEGO collection and develop skills and inspiration that they can apply to building at home. Youth ages 6-12 welcome, but you must arrive by 1:00 pm to participate. (LEGO is a registered trademark of the LEGO Group.)

Amber Drake

Long time Chico resident Amber Drake has worked with children throughout her professional life. She is currently the Chico Area Manager for Play-Well TEKnologies, a national company based in the Bay Area that teaches STEM skills and inspires youth to explore engineering concepts using LEGO. Locally, she also offers LEGO birthday parties and camps and programs that use LEGO, including Art & Architecture and an original game: Mine, Craft, Build! A member of the Snow Goose Steering Committee, Amber also helps coordinate the Junior Naturalist Activities for the Snow Goose Festival.

Matthew Greening

Matthew Greening recently moved to the area to complete his degree and pursue his passion for Civil Engineering. His love of learning and sharing knowledge (and LEGO!) led him to Play-Well, enabling him to lead camps and Enrichment Programs at local schools. When he's not studying or building with LEGO, he's busy with his custom woodworking business, Fox & Burl.
