Description

Bird Language is an ancient discipline, perfected by native people the world over. The birds around us have a deeply varied communication system which our ancestors understood and which we too can understand with practice. This field workshop will take a different angle on birding by looking at how to understand the vocalizations of birds and how they relate to food, predators, and other elements of the ecosystem. Wyatt will begin with a short introduction of this topic. Then participants will choose a spot on the landscape to sit and observe. We will then come together and make a large map with all the observations the group collects and see if we can weave a picture of what the birds are telling us.

ALL LEVELS OF EXPERIENCE WELCOME!! You do not need to know the calls of all the birds to get a lot out of this field workshop. Please bring a chair and a snack to share during the mapping process, and be sure to be prepared for whatever the weather will throw us. There is no such thing as bad weather, only poor preparedness.
