Description

Here's a guided trip that offers spectacular opportunities to see the wintering waterfowl along the Pacific Flyway! The Colusa NWR has a three-mile auto tour loop and an observation deck that offers great viewing and photography, with huge numbers of White-fronted, Ross's, and Snow Geese, along with ducks such as Northern Pintail, Gadwall, Cinnamon Teal, and Northern Shoveler. We may also see grebes, herons, egrets, bitterns, shorebirds, and other waterbirds including Soras and Wilson's Snipe. There's also a roost site here with 150 - 200 Black-crowned Night-Herons. We'll also visit the Maxwell Cemetery to try to sight the Vermilion Flycatcher that's been spending the winters there and drive along Maxwell-Sites Road, where we've seen Canyon Wren, Golden Eagle, and Greater Roadrunner. Bring water, binoculars, and a lunch.
