5th Annual Snow Goose Festival, Jan. 23-25, 2004

Additional Highlights

A Salute to Songbirds
Take a visit to the Chico Creek Nature Center to view our new exhibit "A Salute to Songbirds." Learn interesting facts about the different uses of birds' songs, their possible origins, and phonetic differences. Find out how to identify a true songbird. View different nests made by bird parents who skillfully and artfully weave colorful and natural materials into homes for their babies. Fun, interactive components include a giant bird nest for kids to snuggle in, a keyboard that plays 12 different bird calls, a "Wheel of Flight" to view a flying bird through the use of a zoetrope, and much more!   This exhibit will be on view at The Nature Center from October 2003 through May 2004. We are open Tuesday through Sunday, 11am to 4pm. "A Salute to Songbirds," was developed by the Effie Yeaw Nature Center, located along the American River Parkway in Sacramento, CA.   Funded by Wells Fargo Bank, Butte County Fish & Game Commission, Curt Griffiths & Kennedy-Jenks Consultants, Soroptimist International of Chico, and Altacal Audubon Society.
Young Naturalist Activities Area Chico Masonic Family Center Saturday, 10am-3pm Sunday, 10am-2pm
While exploring the many fascinating displays at the Snow Goose Festival be sure to visit the Young Naturalist Table. Here hands-on activities will be happening most of the day. These activities include arts and crafts and nature games that will excite and expand young children's knowledge and appreciation of the natural world. Scheduled craft projects will be posted at the Young Naturalist Table.

This is a drop-in activity, with donations to help cover the cost of materials gratefully accepted.
Red Bluff Events
New to the festival this year are several special events starting at Red Bluff's Sacramento River Discovery Center.  Field trips originating at the Center will include “Exploring the Red Bluff Recreation Area,” an expert-led birding tour, a hike in the Tehama Wildlife Area, and a tour of the Bureau of Land Management’s Sacramento River Management Area. Expect to see many deer and foothill birds on these field trips.  Participants in the “Native Plant Gardening” field trip/workshop, to be held in the Sacramento River Discovery Center's Discovery Garden, will learn how to attract birds and butterflies.
